What’s going on for Labour Day in Alberta?

Labour Day 2018 Events near Edmonton AB

We think everyone can agree that a day off is a much-needed proposition in any situation, which is why Labour Day carries so much extra weight here in Alberta. Not only is it a day to just kick back and relax, but it also provides us all the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard-working Canadians that make this nation so amazing on a daily basis. The holiday is coming up soon, on Monday, September 3, and to get you in the spirit of the impending arrival of autumn, come join us at some awesome Labour Day 2018 Events near Edmonton AB!

Labour Day Classic | Eskimos vs. Stampeders

Everybody would agree that the true “Battle for Alberta” is Oilers vs. Flames, but on the gridiron, the hatred between the Eskimos and Stampeders also runs deep. The Labour Day Classic, held this year at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, is sure to be a high-flying affair led by two of the best quarterbacks (Mike Reilly and Bo Levi Mitchell) in the CFL. If you can make the trek down to Calgary for the game, you won’t be disappointed by what happens on the field!

Symphony Under the Sky | Hawrelak Park

A bit closer to home, Hawrelak Park – and Heritage Amphitheatre, to be more specific – will be host to some great music and culture at the same time, courtesy of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Starting at 2 pm, you’ll hear some amazing classical music that tunes into the writings of Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, Piccini and more. It all adds up to an afternoon and evening that are sure to be nothing but incredible.

Milky Way Day | Fort Saskatchewan

As children and even into adulthood, we’ve all been mystified by what lies out in space that we have yet to discover or explore. The fine people at Elk Island in Fort Saskatchewan want to give you a literal insider look at outer space as part of Milky Way Day on September 2. Not only will you be able to gaze through the telescopes at our planetary neighbourhood, but guest speakers and presenters will also be on hand!

Pumpkin Season Kickoff | Red Deer

We previously stated that Labour Day is commonly known as the unofficial start to the fall season, a thought that is reinforced by the reopening of Pumpkin Season in nearby Red Deer! An 8-acre corn maze, petting zoo and wagon rides are all yours for the taking, as well as being able to pick out your very own bunch of pumpkins if you’re looking to make some awesome pies for your friends and family. We can’t wait!
