Our first available engine on the 2018 Explorer is the powerful and compact 2.3L EcoBoost. This mean machine is fully capable of cranking out up to 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the Class II Trailer Tow Package and all-wheel drive, and you’ll be able to confidently drive through any terrain even while you’ve got the trailer hooked up behind you.
The second engine available on the 2018 Explorer is a 3.5L twin independent variable camshaft timing, or Ti-VCT, engine. This engine amps up the horsepower a bit with 290 horses ready and waiting for you to press the accelerator. What really makes this engine stand out though is the way that the Ti-VCT system is able to eliminate the performance compromise that tends to come with traditional valve-timing engines. Because this engine doesn’t have that compromise, you’ll experience maximum performance throughout the low, mid, and high ranges of the power band.
Our last available engine on the 2018 Explorer is the 3.5L EcoBoost. This engine is able to combine both turbocharging and direct injection to generate a best-in-class 365 V6 horsepower. Add that to the eye-popping 350 lb-ft of torque that the 3.5L EcoBoost provides, and you’ll see why this has remained one of Ford’s most popular engine choices throughout its vehicles.
