What is the Alberta Fair Trading Act?
So what is this Alberta Fair Trading Act that regulates prices? It works to protect consumers from being taken advantage of through unfair business practices. In relation to the auto industry, that means dealerships are not allowed to add fees on top of the advertised price. The law states:
“[…]in the advertised price for any vehicle the total cost of the vehicle, including, but not limited to, all fees and charges such as the cost of accessories, optional equipment physically attached to the vehicle, transportation charges and any applicable taxes or administration fees, but not including GST or costs and charges associated with financing.”
