Sherwood Ford donated to the MS Society of Canada and the Brain Tumour Foundation in June 2021

Edmonton participants in the annual Edmonton Walk/Run raised over $75,000

Here at Sherwood Ford, we are always trying to make a difference in our community. We’ve found many ways to help out, but donating is one of the most direct ways to make a difference. In June, we were fortunate enough to be able to donate to the MS Society of Canada and the Brain Tumour Foundation, two organizations that make a huge difference for individuals in the Edmonton and Sherwood Park, AB areas.

What is MS and how many people are affected in Canada?

MS stands for Multiple Sclerosis, and MS is a chronic autoimmune disease that impacts the central nervous system. Right now, an estimated 90,000 Canadians have MS. People are usually diagnosed with MS between the ages of 20 and 49 and the cause of MS is thought to be a combination of risk factors including gender, age, environment, and more.

In Canada, we have one of the highest rates of MS. There is a good chance that you know someone living with the disease. If you would like to learn more about how the disease works, what symptoms it has, and how it is diagnosed, we suggest heading to mssociety.ca/about-ms.

Where can you donate to help support the fight against MS?

If you live in Edmonton or Sherwood Park, then you may want to consider donating to the AB & NWT Division of the MS Society of Canada. You can find them as mssocietyABNWT on Facebook to learn more about their events. You can donate your time or money to this organization to make a difference.

Last month, we had the opportunity to donate to the MS Society of Canada to help support the fighters, the warriors, and all of the people living with MS every day. Our donation should help make a difference for Albertans. It was accepted by Krysta Brown of Team Inch by Inch on behalf of the MS Society. Thank you, Krysta and the Inch by Inch team, for raising money by riding in the MS Bike event.

How many Canadians are living with brain tumours?

An estimated 55,00 Canadians are currently living with brain tumours. This disease is unpredictable in its effects and has no cure, but with hope, support, and research we may one day find one. Brain tumours affect individuals of all ages, including children and young adults. In fact, for children under the age of 20, brain tumours are the leading cause of solid cancer death.

You may know someone living with a brain tumour, and if you do, you may have witnessed the devastating impact this disease can have. The location of these tumours means that they can affect physical and cognitive abilities. If you’d like to learn more about it, check out braintumour.ca

How can I support the research to find a cure for brain tumours?

Every year, the Brain Tumour Foundation holds its annual Edmonton Walk/Run. You can support the Brain Tumour Foundation by participating in the event, volunteering at the event, or sponsoring a team for the event. This year, Edmonton participants raised over $75,000!

For our part, we sponsored the team Grant’s Guys, good friends of Sherwood Ford. We were honoured to be able to support our friends and support the research for a cure in June. Although the event is passed, you can still donate to the Brain Tumour Foundation on their website, braintumour.ca.
