DIY video guide: How to equip your 2022 Ford Maverick with truck bed lighting

Steps to bed rail lighting installation at home 

The video above is a great guide to follow along with as you install bed rail lighting on your Maverick. However, we know that it can be difficult to keep up with a video. For your sake, we’ve taken the steps from the video and transcribed them here, in case you need to review the steps for installation at any point. 

  1. Gather your materials: two IP68 waterproof rated lighting strips, one soldering kit, one roll of electrical tape, one package of electrical shrink-wrap, one IP68 waterproof rated switch, one pair of wire strippers, one pack of push-pin cable ties, one piece of scrap wire, and one heat gun. 
  2. Disconnect the battery before getting started. 
  3. Remove the 12-volt access cover on your truck’s D-pillar and pull the wire harness from the holder. 
  4. Unwind the tape connecting the wire. 
  5. Thread the wire from the top of the pillar down to the harness. 
  6. Use your electrical tape to secure the end of the wire to the matching connector pigtail provided with your Ford Maverick truck. 
  7. Pull the wire from the top so that you have sufficient length of the pigtail to solder to your accessory. 
  8. Strip the wire from the accessory using the wire stripper. 
  9. Slide the shrink-wrap onto the wires before making a joint. 
  10. Solder the red wire on your truck to the red wire on your accessory. 
  11. Solder the black wire on your truck to the black wire on your accessory. 
  12. Slide the shrink-wrap onto the joint. 
  13. Heat the shrink-wrap until it is tight around your solder joint. 
  14. Push the connector plate back inside the D-pillar of your truck. 
  15. Use cable ties to attach the light strip so that they are directed toward the adjacent bedside. 
  16. Determine the location you want for your switch and install it into your truck. 
  17. Reconnect the battery in your truck, and you are ready to go!
