Does the government provide incentives to buy an electric vehicle?

iZEV and iMHZEV incentives for purchasing or leasing Ford EVs

To promote the use of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) among Canadian individuals and businesses, the Canadian government introduced the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program in May 2019. Below is information on incentives for light- and medium-duty EVs. We can help you find an alternative-fuel vehicle here at Sherwood Ford in Sherwood Park, AB.

Recent model year Ford vehicles are among the eligible models covered by the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program in Canada. Consumers who purchase or lease a new Ford electric vehicle, such as the Mustang Mach-E, are entitled to receive iZEV Program incentives of up to $5,000. The following 2023 models are included:

  • 2023 Ford Escape PHEV
  • 2023 Ford Mustang Mach E Select RWD Standard Range
  • 2023 Ford Mustang Mach E Select eAWD Standard Range

How big is the government-given incentive for leasing an electric vehicle?

Under the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program in Canada, the full incentive amount of up to $5,000 is available to consumers who purchase or lease eligible zero-emission vehicles for 48 months or longer. However, for shorter leases of 12 to 47 months, the incentive amount is prorated based on the length of the lease. For example, a 24-month lease would qualify for half of the full incentive amount, as seen in the chart below.

The initiative is a part of Canada’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet its climate change targets. 2023 Ford models include the following:
