Steps to taking off your Ford Bronco vehicle’s soft-top roof

Are you having a problem removing your SUV’s roof? Just follow along with the simple steps below and you’ll have it off in no time. Let us know if you have any issues.

To partially remove the soft-top roof

  1. Lower your visors.
  2. Release the two latches in the headliner above the visors.
  3. Push the soft top up and toward the rear of the vehicle, like you’re folding it.
  4. Be sure that the top folds into an S-shape so the fabric doesn’t get damaged.
  5. Be sure that the roof is latched firmly. If it isn’t secure, open it and fold it again.
  6. Use the Velcro straps in the glove box to secure it for off-road driving.

To fully open the soft-top roof

  1. Remove the rear quarter windows. Release the Velcro at the top of the window. Pull the rear edge of the fabric away from the top. Unbuckle the three clips at the top. Release the front edge by pulling the fabric out of the slot. Slide the bottom panel forward to remove it.
  2. Remove the rear window. Release the Velcro across the top and pull it up. While handling the hard plastic edge, pull the bottom corners rearward to disengage the clip. Remove the top corners from the slots. Unbuckle the four clips at the top. Slide the bottom of the window out, left or right.
  3. Go back to the soft top and remove the straps.
  4. Press down on the handle on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  5. Lift and rotate the soft-top toward the rear of the vehicle.
  6. Press down on both sides of the soft-top to latch it.

To fully remove the soft-top roof

  1. Follow the steps above to fully open the soft-top roof.
  2. Remove the panel covers above the rear wheel wells in the cargo area.
  3. Place a towel blocking the wheel well so bolts don’t fall into it.
  4. Get the Bronco toolkit from your glovebox.
  5. Use the socket tool to remove the three bolts on each side.
  6. Push up on these latches on each side.
  7. With two people, lift the soft-top off.
  8. Replace the panel covers.

To install the soft-top roof

  1. Remove the panel covers above the rear wheel wells in the cargo area.
  2. With a friend, lift the soft-top into place.
  3. Secure the three bolts on each side, under where the panel cover was.
  4. Replace the panel covers.
  5. Unfold the soft top by pressing down on the latch.
  6. Lift the soft-top back into the partially open position.
