Power ratings and drivetrain innovations for the 2020 Ford Explorer

Adventure seekers and professionals aren’t really that different – they both need ample space in their vehicles to handle everything in their lives, as well as enough power and savviness to get where they need to go with fun and comfort along the way.  That’s why we’re proud to introduce you to the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer, a legendary SUV that’s able to check off every box and handle any desire you have.

Today, Sherwood Ford wants to take you through the power ratings and drivetrain innovations for the 2020 Ford Explorer – if you’ve been hunting for a new SUV with searing strength and excellent control over any terrain, this is your best choice out there!

Power and efficiency ratings for new 2020 Ford Explorer trims

The 2020 Explorer has undergone a much-needed revision for the upcoming model year, offering two new high-powered trims in the form of an athletic ST model and ultra-efficient Hybrid option. The former is paired with a 400-horsepower engine, and the latter is able to handle a maximum tow rating north of 5,000 pounds while still achieving a highway driving range greater than 800 kilometres!

2020 Ford Explorer new drive platforms and powertrain features

Perhaps the most impressive new inclusion for the 2020 Explorer is its Rear-Wheel Drive architecture, which exudes a sportier, athletic exterior that has enough brawn to go with its beauty. With RWD equipped, the 2020 Explorer offers more than 600 pounds of tow rating than its standard trims, as well as improved ride quality both on and off the road.

The 2020 Explorer is also aided by its Trailer Sway Control feature, which can mechanically brake and adjust engine power to keep your haul centered and controlled – all told, it greatly increases stability no matter what you’re pulling. If towing is your main pursuit in the new Explorer, we can’t recommend its Class III Trailer Tow Package enough – it’ll be available with its 2.3L EcoBoost® and 3.3L hybrid engines, and standard with the Explorer’s 3.0L EcoBoost® motor.
