Celebrate Labour Day Weekend with these events and festivals

As summer comes to a close and the school year starts to pick up speed, it can be wonderful to spend one last long weekend celebrating with family and doing something fun. In this list of Labour Day Weekend 2017 events around Edmonton AB, we wanted to offer a few unique things to do for the Labour Day holiday, from Friday, Sept 1 all the way to Monday, Sept 4.

Symphony Under the Sky – Heritage Amphitheatre, Hawrelak Park

The Symphony Under the Sky series by the Winspear Centre is a concert series performed outside at the Heritage Amphitheatre. From Thursday, August 31 to Sunday, September 4 there will be a different concert each day. Ticket prices range from $50 for an adult seat to $25 to sit on the grass. Corn Fest – Prairie Gardens and Adventure Farm

Celebrate all things corn (including corn mazes, corn eating contests, and corny jokes) at the Prairie Garden and Adventure Farm about 25 kilometres north of Edmonton. Cost for the fest is $12.60 for an individual or $10.50 per person for a family and includes live music, great sights sounds and many activities. The Corn Fest is open 11 a.m to 5 p.m all Labour Day weekend. Learn more here.

Harvest Fair – Fort Edmonton Park

Ford Edmonton Park is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Labour Day 2017 (September 4). During the Harvest Fair running Sept. 2-4, attendees will be able to enjoy unique attractions and features. Get the full list here. Cost for the park is $26.20 + GST for adults, with discounted rates available for children, seniors, families, and groups. We’re pretty sure the Harvest Fair is included in the price of park admission.[/bscolumns]

Star Party – Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve

The 12th annual Star Party will feature guest speakers, volunteer astronomers offering tips on stargazing, and music performances. It will be held on two days over Labour Day weekend. On Saturday, September 2 the Star Party will be at Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. Sunday, September 3 festivities will be at Elk Island National Park.

Sheep Week – Fort Saskatchewan

On September 4, there will be a Sheep Leaving Parade as the sheep who live around Fort Saskatchewan head off to winter pastures. Spectators can experience this very cool event in a parade that begins at Legacy Park and ends up at Ford Heritage Precinct. The parade starts at 11 a.m., with festivities 10-noon. Viewing this parade is free, and there may be other things happening for Sheep Week leading up to the parade.
