Five signs that you need new wiper blades

The video above does a good job of summarizing when you should get new wiper blades on your vehicle. While some signs are more obvious than others, here is what to look out for. Schedule a service appointment to get them swapped when you notice any of the following.

  • Your visibility is low in snow or rain. This is the main job of your wipers, to provide visibility. Thus, if it starts to fail, they need to be replaced.
  • A chattering sound accompanies your windshield wipers. If they chatter whenever they are in use, that’s a sign that they are wearing out. You should replace them when you get a chance.
  • Cracks are visible in your windshield wipers. For preventative care, you can visually check them every few months. When you start to see signs of wear, chances are that these other symptoms will follow soon.
  • The windshield wiper has changed colour. Some wipers come with a built-in, colour-changing indicator. You may not even realize that you have these, but if your wipers change colour, that’s a sure indicator for replacement.
  • It’s been twelve months since you last bought wipers. If twelve months have passed, then your wipers are likely on their way out. Getting a yearly wiper change is one way to handle wiper changes.
