Losing your Ford key fob can be a frustrating experience, but don’t worry—Sherwood Ford in Sherwood Park, AB, is here to help. Whether you’re locked out of your car, need a replacement key, or want to know your options, this guide will walk you through what to do if you lose your Ford key fob. Keep reading to learn how to unlock your car and get a new key fob.

How to unlock your Ford without a key

If you’ve lost your key fob, you may still be able to access your vehicle using one of these methods:

Use remote unlock on the FordPass app

If you have the FordPass app set up and linked to your vehicle, you can unlock your car remotely:

  1. Open the FordPass app on your smartphone.
  2. Select your vehicle from the app’s menu.
  3. Press and hold the Unlock button to unlock your doors.

Use your keyless entry code if equipped

Some Ford models come with a keyless entry keypad located on the driver’s door. If you know your five-digit access code, simply enter it to unlock your car—no key required.

Call Ford roadside assistance

Ford owners with an active New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Powertrain Warranty, or certain Ford Protect Extended Service Plans can contact Ford Roadside Assistance for help getting back into their car. Check your coverage details and call Ford’s Roadside Assistance number for immediate assistance.

Can Ford help me find my missing car key?

No, Ford cannot track or locate a lost key fob. If you believe your key fob is lost for good, the best course of action is to get a replacement key.

How do I get a replacement key for my Ford?

If your Ford is 10 years old or newer, you can get a replacement coded key fob from a Ford dealership. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Proof of identification: Driver’s license, state ID, or passport
  • Proof of vehicle ownership: One of the following documents with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
    • Current Vehicle Registration
    • Current Certificate of Automobile Insurance
    • Vehicle Title
    • Bill of Sale
  • Payment for the replacement key

If your Ford is older than 10 years, your dealership may not be able to duplicate the key. However, they may be able to assist you in finding a local locksmith who can provide a replacement key for your vehicle.

How do I get my car to a dealership to program a new key?

If you cannot access your vehicle, the best option is to have it towed to Sherwood Ford so that a technician can program a new key for you.

How much does a new Ford key fob cost?

The cost of a replacement Ford key fob varies based on the model and year of your vehicle. Contact Sherwood Ford in Sherwood Park, AB, for a price quote on a new key for your specific Ford model.
