How does Ford Rear Seat Occupant Alert work?

  • It monitors when the rear doors have been opened and closed before a trip, so it won’t give you an alert if something has been back there for more than one trip, unless you open and close the doors again. 
  • The purpose of Ford Rear Seat Occupant Alert is to prevent children or pets from being left in the back seat of a vehicle, which can be harmful during hot or cold weather. 
  • The system will give you a notification to check your rear seat when the vehicle is turned off. 
  • The notification will be a visual message on your vehicle’s touchscreen, along with an audible chime. The chime will sound if a rear door is opened or closed while the ignition is on, the ignition is turned on within 15 minutes of a rear door opening or closing, or the ignition is turned on within 15 minutes of the alert. 

How do I turn Ford Rear Seat Occupant Alert off? 

To prevent this warning from sounding, you can disable Ford Rear Seat Occupant Alert. Choose Settings on your vehicle’s touchscreen, then Vehicle, and use the option to turn Ford Rear Seat Occupant Alert off. Every six months, the system will give you a reminder that this feature is turned off.
