When is the best time to switch seasonal tires in the Edmonton area?

Why you should take off your winter tires in the spring

When is the best time to switch seasonal tires in the Edmonton area? After the last snowfall of the year, you should switch your vehicle to summer or all-season tires when you get the chance. That means you should get a seasonal tire swap sometime in spring. You can keep reading below for more resources and information on seasonal tires swaps with Sherwood Ford. Do a Seasonal Tire Changeover or Tire Swap Recommended Service video by Sherwood Ford

What are the differences between a tire swap and a tire changeover?

In the video above, we learn that you should get either a tire swap or a tire changeover every spring. The video also defines each of these services, but we’ll recap for you here. Here is what each option consists of:

  • Tire changeover: One set of wheels and two sets of rubber
  • Tire swap: Two sets of wheels and two sets of rubber

So, a tire swap involves changing both sets of wheels and tires, or put another way, the tires in a tire swap are already mounted on wheels. Both of these services change all four tires, which serves the purpose of extending tire life and preventing wear and tear.

Why shouldn’t I use winter tires year round in Edmonton, AB?

Winter tires are not made for warm weather. They will not hold up well in hot, dry weather in summer. While this might not seem dangerous in the high-traction conditions of a summer drive, the tires will then have less traction when winter comes back around. In short, you’ll have to replace your winter tires more often, and you’ll be less safe year-round. Summer or all-season tires provide the most optimal traction in hot, dry conditions and during rain.
