Tire Tread and Pressure Inspection

Ford Tire Tread Pressure Check Service

Tire Tread and Pressure Inspection in Alberta

Tires are a very important part of your car and making sure that you have tires that are in good shape, that are working for your car, and that are also safe for you to drive on is a must. Tires are important and making sure that you are getting them checked can mean the difference between a tire that carries you to where you are going and tires that could pop at any moment.

What is a Tire Tread and Pressure Check?

As we drive the tread on our tires naturally wears down and becomes slick. When the tire tread starts to wear down, the tires become slick, they become less safe, and it becomes harder for the tires to grip the road. A tire tread wear and pressure check makes sure they're in a safe condition to drive on any type of road: snowy, wet, or good conditions.

Keep reading below for a guide to tire care, a video on tire pressure, and a look at our dealership amenities!

Tire Tread Wear Guide

How to Check Tire Tread Wear

Keeping an eye on your tire tread is essential for maintaining traction, handling, and safety on the road. Worn-out tires can lead to reduced grip, longer braking distances, and even hydroplaning in wet conditions. If you're wondering how to check tire tread wear, here are a few simple methods to ensure your tires are in good shape.

The Penny Test

A quick and easy way to check your tread depth is by using a penny. Insert the penny into the tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tread depth is too low (less than 2/32 of an inch), and it’s time to replace your tires.

The Quarter Test

For a more cautious approach, use a quarter instead. Place it into the tread with Washington’s head facing down. If the tread does not reach the top of his head, you should consider replacing your tires soon, especially if you drive in wet or snowy conditions.

Tread Wear Indicators

Most modern tires have built-in tread wear indicators—small rubber bars running across the tread. If these bars are flush with the tread, your tires are at the legal minimum and should be replaced immediately.

Using a Tread Depth Gauge

For the most accurate reading, use a tread depth gauge. Insert the gauge’s probe into a tread groove and check the reading. Anything below 2/32 of an inch means it's time for new tires.

Uneven Tread Wear

While checking your tires, look for signs of uneven wear, such as bald spots or one side of the tire wearing down faster than the other. This could indicate misalignment, improper inflation, or suspension issues.

Checking your tire tread regularly can help you avoid accidents and costly repairs. If you notice excessive wear, it may be time for a tire replacement or a professional inspection.

Tire Inspections Are Important

Tire tread is important to make sure that the tires are going to grip the road and that they are going to be safe for you to drive. As well as tire tread, the pressure is going to make a big difference in your gas mileage, the overall safety of your car, and the chance that the tires might blow out. The correct tire pressure is going to make your car drive better and it is also going to make your car safer to drive as well.
