On some of the affected vehicles, water and contaminants can intrude into the block heater wire assembly that may result in a resistive short. While the vehicle is parked and block heater cord is plugged in, a resistive short may increase the risk of overheated or melted wiring, and/or fire. A short may also trip household breakers or GFCI-equipped outlets when the block heater cord is plugged in. The Ford reference number for this recall is 18S45.
What Sherwood Ford Will Do:
Dealers will inspect the engine block heater cable wire assembly and replace it if it's damaged or corroded. If there are no signs of damage or corrosion, dealers will apply dielectric grease to the splice connector and reconnect. Owners will be notified starting January 7th, 2019.

The risk to safety only exists while the vehicle is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet. If a replacement cable is required, but unavailable, customers will receive an information sheet and will be notified via mail for a follow-up appointment once parts become available.
