Light The Night Walk End Cancer

Light The Night Walk

Join with us in the fight against blood cancer.  Take part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Canada’s Light The Night Walk to raise $$$$ to help find a cure for blood cancers.  Together we can be there at Hawrelak Park for survivors and patients as a community on September 24th.

Light The Night Walk End Cancer

Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  2,200 people in Northern Alberta are diagnosed so far this year, 56 more are added daily and 19 lose their lives everyday! Light The Night Walk Manager for the Edmonton walk Katie Suvanto says, “10 years ago we didn’t know as a family what to do when our niece was diagnosed.  So we found this walk and it has become a part of our life.”

Light The Night Walk

The 10th annual walk is free and participants who would like a lantern and T-shirt are asked to donate $100.  Registration begins at 5pm at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton and the walk gets underway at 7:30pm.  Participants can take a 2.5km or 5km route around the park or across the river.  Suvanto says it’s an amazing sight to see thousands of coloured lanterns. “White represents patients and survivors, gold lanterns are in memory of lost loved ones and supporters who donate $100 may carry a red lantern.” This year includes for the first time ever an after dark Pokemon Go event!

The LLS in Northern Alberta funds 240 types of blood cancer patient treatments a the Cross Cancer Institute and UofA Hospital, as well as its focus on research and patient support. Suvanto says the goal for the 2016 Light The Night Walk in Edmonton is to raise 420,000 dollars that will help to support over 10 thousand patients and growing in Northern Alberta.  When you see the outpouring of love, you’ll feel connected with everyone!

Just prior to the walk there’s a pasta dinner as well as a kids area that includes rock climbing and jumpy castles. Participants will walk alongside patients who come from the hospital to join with their families.  Sherwood Ford is proud to sponsor with our generous support the 2016 Light The Night Walk Edmonton.  Your donation can make a difference, so please Click here to join the cause!  Join us for an evening of solidarity and hope to end cancer! A Big East Coast concert will wrap up the event in the park. The Edmonton event is one of 11 walks held across Canada. For more information, please call 1-866-547-5433.
