How to use the Terrain Management System in a Ford Expedition SUV

What is the Terrain Management System in my Ford?

As an SUV owner, you understand the importance of having a reliable vehicle that can handle all types of driving conditions. That’s why Ford Expedition SUVs equipped with Intelligent 4WD come with the Terrain Management System ™ as a standard feature. Keep reading below to learn about what this system offers you. If you don’t yet own a Ford SUV, we can help you change that here at Sherwood Ford. Visit us in Sherwood Park, AB.

How to select a drive mode with your Terrain Management System

To use the Terrain Management System in your Expedition, simply locate and rotate the dial on your center console. As you twist the dial, the digital cluster in your SUV will display a matching animation for each setting. Once you land on your preferred drive mode, your Expedition will automatically adjust to your selection. And when you turn your SUV off and on again, the Terrain Management System will automatically reset to the default drive mode, which is “Normal.”

What are the available drive modes with the Terrain Management System?

This advanced system includes eight selectable drive modes that make it easier to tackle different driving situations and road conditions. You can also switch between 2WD and 4WD while in any drive mode. The available drive modes include the following:

  • Normal: This is the default drive mode and is great for everyday road conditions.
  • Eco: If you’re looking to maximize fuel efficiency and drive farther, this mode is for you.
  • Sport: For those who want to go faster and experience a thrill while driving, Sport mode increases accelerator pedal response and engages lower gears longer.
  • Tow/Haul: This mode provides boosted pulling power for trailers and heavy loads.
  • Snow/Wet: When driving on rainy, wet, or snowy roads, this mode helps you maintain grip.
  • Grass/Gravel/Snow: This mode limits torque to prevent slipping or sliding on gravel, ice, packed snow, water, or thin coatings of sand.
  • Mud/Rut: When driving off-road on muddy, rutted, soft, or uneven ground, this mode allows for wheel spin to help maintain momentum.
  • Sand: This mode manages traction control and gear shifts to help you drive through soft, dry sand.
